Overview of the MYP

The MYP at Ambassador International Academy covers grades 6 to 10, teaching students aged 11 to 15. During these incredibly formative years, we guide students through an educational framework that continues to prioritise inquiry-based learning, centres global perspectives, and emphasises community service.

Our students engage deeply with the world around them, pursue their interests, and develop essential skills for navigating a world that changes constantly.

The History of the MYP

Established in 1994, and revised in 2014, the MYP was the second programme initiated by the International Baccalaureate. Implemented in nearly 2000 schools in over 100 countries, it introduces a flexible framework compatible with varying local educational requirements, integrating digital assessments and ePortfolios to evaluate student acheivement reliably.

At AIA, the MYP aims to cultivate active learners who are both globally aware and capable of empathising with others. We intend to empower our students to explore significant issues on multiple levels (local, national, and international) helping them develop into creative, critical, and reflective thinkers.

Subject Groups in the MYP Curriculum

The MYP consists of eight subject groups, each focusing on a different topic to teach a variety of concepts and develop a range of skills. Each subject group requires around 50 hours of teaching time annually, plus plenty of interdisciplinary units to help students connect their learning across subjects and to the real world.

Language Acquisition

Focuses on communication skills in multiple languages, emphasising identity through language learning.

Individuals & Societies

Engages students in the humanities and social sciences, helping them analyse and interpret complex data and societal impacts.

Mathematics

Promotes problem-solving and critical thinking, preparing students for real-life applications and further studies.

Arts

Encourages creativity and analytical skills through various artistic disciplines, enhancing students' understanding of cultural contexts.

Physical & Health Education

Empowers students to appreciate physical activity and make healthy choices, promoting overall wellbeing.

Design

Challenges students to apply creative thinking to design problems, emphasising the holistic design process.

Approaches to Learning (ATL) & Global Contexts

The MYP curriculum at AIA emphasises a few crucial Approaches to Learning (ATL) that develop important skills necessary for independent learning and applying knowledge in new contexts.

Each unit includes local and global contexts, helping students understand their role within their broader community.

Service as Action & Community Engagement

Central to the MYP curriculum is the idea of community service as action. We encourage students to apply their learning and positively impact society.

The MYP Community Project offers students aged 13 to 14 a platform for collaborative service learning, while the Personal Project, completed by students in the final year of the MYP, allows students to explore their personal interests much more deeply.

Assessments in the MYP

The flexible approach to learning in the MYP means we employ a criterion-related assessment model, evaluating student performance against defined rubrics. Each subject group includes four assessment criteria, allowing teachers to offer constructive feedback and opportunities for growth.

This assessment approach supports transparency and contributes to our students' understanding of what is expected of them, fostering a rich learning environment.

Through the MYP, AIA prepares students for the next phase of their education and the rest of their lives, helping them acquire vital skills and knowledge while developing their identities as global citizens.
