BTEC International Extended Diploma in Business

The BTEC International Level 3 Diploma is designed to provide a specialist vocational qualification. It gives learners knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare them for employment or to progress on to higher education. The course is different to many others as it is a project-based course assessed 100% by completing coursework tasks which involve applying business knowledge to real business situations. A key element of the course is to create opportunities for the students to relate theory to real life. Therefore, at AIA, we create opportunities for students to gain work experience through internships organized by the school and develop understanding of different types of businesses through visits to local businesses.

In this course students will study the following 6 Core mandatory units:

  • Exploring Business
  • Research and Plan a Marketing Campaign
  • Managing an event
  • Business Finance
  • Principles of Management
  • Business Decision Making<

Students will also explore 9 additional units chosen by the teaching staff from the optional units which are likely to include diverse topics such as Digital Marketing and Investigating a Retail Business.

The benefit of undertaking a coursework subject like BTEC is the opportunity students have to improve their work after receiving formal feedback from teachers, unlike an examination subject which has a one-off summative assessment. Through this course, students will develop excellent project-based secondary research skills, critical thinking, analytical and evaluative skills and develop into independent learners. These are all valuable skills for higher education or/and professional career.
